Students benefit from more than 50 years of music education research and experience in 43 countries. Yamaha has graduated more than four million students.

Yamaha Music Education exceeds the National Standards for Music Education, which was instituted in 1994. The standards are:

  1. Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
  2. Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
  3. Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
  4. Composing and arranging music within specified guidelines.
  5. Reading and notation of music.
  6. Listening to, analyzing, and describing music.
  7. Evaluating music and music performances.
  8. Understanding relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
  9. Understanding music in relation to history and culture.

Yamaha students are proficient in all these areas, as well as having learned perfect relative pitch, have a fully developed musical repertoire of pieces, can improvise melodically, rhythmically, and harmonically and are completely comfortable performing for one or one hundred listeners.

Yamaha's curriculums are age-specific both in teaching methods, lesson content, and music. These curriculums are:

Toddler Tunes (3-4 years) - Not Offered at this time.

This comprehensive music curriculum introduces the preschool student to the concepts of rhythm, solfege (do,re,mi) singing, body movement, basic keyboard, and reading. Toddler Tunes introduce concepts of group learning: ear first, keyboard as a learning tool, and age appropriate activities for skill development. Learning together in a group strengthens individual rhythm skills and listening habits, and develops confidence.

Required materials: Book with Tote Bag.

Junior Music Course (Ages 4-6)

This two-year program helps children develop their musical abilities and create expression naturally. We know that young children hear and remember musical pitches, rhythm patterns, and harmonies in much the same way as they learn to walk and talk. The in-class musical experiences nurture creativity and help instill the basis for playing and expression through feeling and understanding music. Lesson contents include: Hearing (ear training)-develops emotional sensitivity and an ear for music. Singing - develops self-expression, correct tempo, rhythm, and pitch, and understanding of note names. Keyboard playing - performing songs introduces children to the joy of expressing music by themselves as well as with others. Creating composition - develops musical creativity and sense of harmony.

Required materials: JMC Lesson Book, Workbook, (included in registration) Purchase of CD required with registration.

Young Musicians Course (Ages 6-8)

Children will be involved in the following activities: singing, ear training, repertoire, ensemble playing, keyboard harmony, arranging, keyboard techniques, singing, sight playing, and theory. Required materials: YMC book (included in registration). Purchase of CD or cassette required with registration.

Keyboard Encounters for Kids

KEK is written especially for children ages 7-9 years, to help increase academic test scores. Classes feature music reading, ensemble playing, singing, and solo play. Studies show that playing music helps kids excel in math, reading, and verbal skills and score better on tests than kids without a music education. Most recorded and live music is performed in groups. Playing with a group builds self-confidence and helps to establish an excellent sense of rhythm. Required materials: KEK book (included in registration).

Keyboard Encounters (ages 9- adult)

Keyboard Encounters, Yamaha's most recent contribution to the world of music education, reflects the belief that all people are musical regardless of age, ability, or experience. With this innovative course of piano-style instruction, tradition and technology meet in harmony. Keyboard Encounters provides an ideal setting in which to develop a student's musical creativity. Required materials: KE Book (included in registration).
